 How to Grow Your Own Organic Mushrooms

Stage #0: Pick Your Spot

Find a great place to put your mushroom kit. A good example is a table near a window with indirect sunlight, right next to your other houseplants.

Stage #1: Prep the Bag

• Cut an “X” into the front plastic of the bag, but do not cut the plastic flaps off. They are necessary to keep the moisture in.

• Lift the flaps and scratch the white surface of the soil block using a fork. Scrape it firmly so it loosens up, which helps stimulate mushroom growth.

Stage #2: Soak the Kit

• Submerge the soil bag face down (with the "X" side underwater) in a bowl or bucket of water.

• Let it soak for 6 to 10 hours (leaving it overnight works perfectly). It is normal if a little bit of loose soil falls out during this step.

Stage #3: Water and Grow

• Put the bag back into its cardboard box and place it back in your indirect sunlight spot.

• Use the included mini spray bottle to spray the open "X" area with 4–5 pumps of water, doing this about 3 times a day.

• Keep doing this daily until you see tiny baby mushrooms popping out (called "pinning"), which usually takes 1 to 2 weeks.

• Once they start growing, they grow very fast! You can scale back to spraying just once a day if your room feels dry.

Stage #4: Harvest

• The mushrooms will double in size daily and will be fully grown around 5 days after they start pinning (reaching about 1–2 inches).
• Gently pluck them out from the base, rinse off any remaining dirt, and they are ready to cook or dry!
